Why Bad Boys Always Get The Girl

In every fairy tale, Prince Charming has always been so prim and proper. He is a clean cut debonair of a man, who is every bit of a gentleman. Every woman in the kingdom wants to be his bride. But in the real world, he might not have the same reputation. They say that it's the good guys that finish last.

We all know at least one person who fits the stereotypical "bad boy" image. He is the guy with such high self-esteem and wins women over with deceit, his impulsive behaviour and aggressive ways. According to the ABC News, new studies show that women preferred to date the bad boy image over the boy next door type of guy.

A research was done at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and psychological tests were given to 200 college students to see who possessed the traits of a "Bad Boy" A certain list of behaviours and anti-social traits were in the list to determine who among them has a "Bad Boy" Image.

Although society tends to reject the traits of a typical bad boy, there definitely are advantages to being one, according to lead study investigator, Peter Jonason. "We would traditionally consider these dark triad traits to be adverse personality traits, and we think women would avoid these kinds of men, but what we show is counterintuitive -- that women are attracted to these bad boys and they do pretty well in terms of sheer numbers of sexual partners," Jonason explained. "They're taking quantity over quality as their sexual agenda, being serially monogamous and having multiple partners or one-night stands."

Jonason describes the bad boy figure as the James Bond of modern times; a reckless lover, who drives the same way in fast cars just like James Dean. He does not want long term relationships and would never seem to want to settle down. That is why they become a challenge to the women. He becomes the jackpot prize to be won and the girl he chooses feels like the most beautiful woman on earth...at least until he breaks up with her, which will not take that long.

The girls are intrigued of a bad boy's past which he would never reveal or speak of. In his silence and indifference, they wonder more of what happened in his life that made him the way he is. The dangers that surround him make it an adventure to be with him. His strong and aggressive behaviour makes a girl feel safer, knowing that if anyone does her wrong, her "bad boy" would defend her.

The research mentioned earlier has shown that all throughout human evolution, the bad boys have survived and have done really well in terms of the dating game and even with having multiple sexual partners all throughout their lifetime, which may not be very long either considering their vices and reckless-aggressive behaviour. They either die young in a car accident, a drug overdose or they get shot by a jealous lover. Either way, they could say they have lived their life to the fullest having faced all the dangers and risks life has to offer.

One major risk that a bad boy usually takes in his life is to pursue his one true love. For that one woman, he risks breaking his seemingly stone-cold heart as he makes the ultimate sacrifice of trying to change for her to prove his love.

Now I'm not saying that you boys should change image just to get girls. I believe that every man has a "bad boy" in them. You don't need a leather jacket or a motorcycle to let your "Bad boy Image" out of his shell. All I am saying is that every woman wants to feel safe and protected by her man. We girls don't need a prince charming. What we really want is a dashing and strong knight in shining armour, who would be there to keep us safe.
